The trainers are absolutely amazing, super friendly and encouraging in every way possible. This is the first gym I've ever signed up to and I've got to say it's perfect.Whether or not you have a martial arts background there's always something new to learn. Even if you don't fancy doing some high intensity workout there are plenty of options to take on a strength class or just use the gym equipment available for all! And the best part? The atmosphere is amazing, everyone is really friendly welcoming and encouraging! You definitely won't regret it!

Trainers are very professional as well as efficient. They understand how to tailor classes to class size and diversity as well as skill level. High intensity, no BS classes with a great mix of both men and women in a welcoming and supportive environment. Everyone is there to learn and nobody is showing off. I have trained with Josh and Julian and it is obvious that they are both passionate and dedicated.

The guys running the place are absolutely fantastic. Josh brings his A game to every training session and you leave every session with him feeling like you learned something. Julian is a fantastic fitness trainer and an amazing guy to talk to about everything from training to supplements! 10/10 I love training here

Awsome place to train and learn self defence. They offer a wide range of classes and times so you can train early morning, lunch or after work. All the trainers are fantastic and are extremly patient, even with people like me who have never done any martial art before. The people that train here are great and help out if you're getting stuck. The classes have given me confidence and make me feel great. It is also a place to go if you just want to stay fit, their strength and cross training classes will push you to your limits. I can't recommend this place enough.

I've been training at FMC for about a year, and I highly recommend this gym. Josh has provided real-life knowledge on how to defend ourselves through realistic situations, through Krav Maga, and has continually improved my confidence in sparring through Kickboxing. Julian continually challenges us mentally and physically through his 30 minute cross training classes.Thanks for continually creating an atmosphere of family and acceptance. Can not highly recommend this gym enough!

Just started training at FMC and I couldn't love it more. Fantastic instructors for all their classes including Krav Maga, BJJ and conditioning. The classes are intense, but designed and well suited to beginners. FMC includes a great weights area with everything you'd need for strength training. Full of like minded people looking to learn to fight, train and defend themselves.

You would be surprised at how quickly you can transform your body and mind when working either 1 on 1 or in the group classes with Josh Karst, Julian Smith and Alex Tse. Whether you're focusing on improving your physical health or honing the ability to defend yourself and your loved ones FMC is not just your gym, but your Family. It offers excellent support and the opportunity to excel in a martial arts of your choosing (Or perhaps all 3 for the dedicated individuals). Whether that be Kick Boxing/Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu Or Krav Maga (an Israeli Military Combative system) the instructors create engaging and realistic street like scenarios which are designed to help improve Muscle Memory should any student ever come face to face with a real life threat on the streets, out at night or at any number of places. Krav Maga focuses on the extreme situations and Josh breaks it down well for both the beginners and intermediate learners of this system. It's no use learning techniques with too many complicated steps that can become easily forgotten/performed incorrectly. With the correct guidance you will learn how to defend yourself with simple yet realistic and easily remembered movements against an attacker wielding weapons such as bats, batons, knives, pistols/guns as well as their bare hands. Lastly no-one wants to worry about how their body reacts in the face of a potentially life threatening situation? Josh's Krav Maga instruction ensures that you won't have to. You are taught when to engage and when to run, how to defuse a situation by handing over your belongings or how to attack first if the perpetrator is showing only signs of aggression and no signs of reasoning. These classes are excellent for everyone of all genders, ages and sizes.

I've done krav maga for 7 years before I came here and Josh keeps it REAL. He makes krav realistic and practical, and his instructions are clear and easy to follow. I do wish the classes were longer but you can complement krav with the kick boxing training offered because combatives are also important.Julian's strength conditioning classes are really detailed and he works you hard so you know you are definitely getting your money's worth here!Both trainers are friendly, knowledgeable and always ready to answer your questions 🙂

I have never post any review in google before because I was not confident with my English as a foreigner. But I'll try to share some of my experience in FMC now because it might help someone for their decision making hopefully.I have been training in FMC(including former IDF CBD) for more than one year. I love the gym and enjoy every class I attended. Like many other gyms they have professional instructors, friendly members and top facilities. And I found there are quite a few most amazing parts I got in FMC which are probably hard to find elsewhere.1. FMC provides classes for both modern martial arts/sports fighting(like kick-boxing, bjj) and self defence (Krav Maga) so one of the benefits for members is we can train both kinds of techniques and learn their differences. There are many doubts, discussions and debates regarding if "fighting sports" can be effective in a real situation. You can find all the answers here! Josh always explains in detail what limitations the sports techniques have and how to convert them and what should be aware of when applying to a real situation. Much of the knowledge are directly from his personal street fights experience (unfortunately:)).2. Josh is extremely responsible as a instructor. Many instructors in other places just give some instructions and then look around without giving more guidance even seeing some mistakes. Many times as a beginner we are only able to get guidance from training parters if we are lucky enough. But in FMC apart from senior partners' guides, each time after technique demo Josh always walks by everyone and corrects every mistake he finds and points out the corrections/improvements by demo against the specific personal issues. So even in a 45 mins class I can get personal guides several times.3. During the 15 months training I am feeling the classes are keeping evolving. The classes provided, timetable, techniques structure and distribution, teaching style and even techniques themselves are continue to got improved and optimised. And Josh likes to listen to students' feedback and always encourage us to give him our thoughts. I am a person truly believe in evolving and continuous improvements and I can see FMC is taking their job very serious.So I highly recommend FMC.

I did FMC's one week free trial and went mainly to the Krav Maga sessions. Gotta say, the Krav Maga sessions were pretty damn good. They were extremely practical. When we did the exercises, Josh (the main instructor) made sure our partners simulated real life attacks (and put proper force into them - while still being safe!). This might sound scary to some, but it's done in a controlled environment. And unless you get exposed to these situations with decent force behind the attacks, you're not going to learn how to properly defend yourself in real life. Every time I stepped out of Josh's classes I feel like I learnt something very practical and valuable for my self defence.Another thing to keep in mind, particularly for women who want to learn self defence; I found it *really* valuable to partner up with a guy. You learn what it's like to have someone decently heavier and stronger attack you/get on top of you. I learnt how hard you have to fight back, and how important your technique is to get them off and defend yourself. They'll also give you advice on what is working and what's not so you can better defend yourself.Super valuable classes and I would 100% recommend them. The other classes also looked really interesting. I think it's good to upskill yourself in the other trainings so you can put them all together to make your defence stronger. I'll want to try BJJ next.Thanks Josh and FMC for the week so far! It's been fun and a great learning experience.

I trained here whilst travelling after recommendation from a guy I trained with at a Thai Boxing camp in Thailand. The gym has great facilities and as it's accessible 24 hours I had no excuse. The best training was in the day, Josh (one of the coaches) is a legend is a legend legend in Melbourne and a very humble guy. With a few pointers he's made my left roundhouse super fast and unstoppable! Will definitely be back when I get back travelling.

I joined last December and started with no background in martial arts or any form of fighting; it was definitely an intimidating thought for me at first, however once I visited the gym and had my first class, my mindset was changed. The instructors are well experienced and are more than welcoming - not only do they help everyone get the most out of each class, they also motivate you to want to improve. There's great energy in every class, making you feel energised and look forward to the following one. The best quality about FMC is that they welcome all demographics: every level of experience, a wide age range, and provide a comfortable training environment for all. I also believe that the pricing is great for such quality classes in a convenient location.

What a great place! It's definitely the best self defence and gym centre of Melbourne. The Staff is amazing and listening your needs. The atmosphere make me wants to stay all the night long! Which is a little problem for my wife...but not for my body and my mind! Very happy to have discovered that place! Highly recommended.
